Charoite is one of my very favorite gemstones, and I use it accent pieces in various ways. Large pieces wet saw well into small pieces that can be micro-beveled and shaped with great care. Charoite does not tumble well but I carefully shatter it into rugged striations and use them to accent antlers and rattles heads.

Charoite Metaphysical Properties
While relatively new to the commercial market, charoite’s metaphysical properties result in it being used for healing and ceremonial purposes. Sometimes called a “stone of transformation,” charoite is thought to aid the transformation of negative emotions into positive ones. It is believed to encourage inner strength, assertiveness, creativity and self-esteem.
While it is not a birthstone, it is affiliated with the astrological signs Sagittarius and Scorpio. Charoite is thought to be useful for the crown, third eye and solar plexus chakras
Charoite was believed to be named after the Chara River in Eastern Siberia, but due to the river being 70 km away from its discovery place, now it is believed to be named after the Russian word chary, meaning magic or charms. When it was discovered, it was thought to be a fake, dyed purple to give it its striking appearance.
