An Amarok is a gigantic wolf in Inuit religion, said to stalk and devour any person foolish enough to hunt alone at night. Unlike wolves who hunt in packs, amaroks hunt alone.
One of my best friends requested a rattle : he had a very intense and long encounter with a black wolf while he was in the wilderness. I listened intently to his story and descriptions of the wolf and landscape and set out to recreate the wolf in rattle form.

Amarok is pyrography, except for the two gray stones that I set for his eyes.
The rattle is bordered with tumbled black river pebbles.
Amarok is mounted on a caribou tine and trimmed with Wolf fur.

The backside of Amarok is all fall flora: the last of yellow marsh marigold and showy mountain ash.
